Executive Chef/Proprietor Bob Yacavonis
Sensational Foods, Inc. is owned and operated by Chef Bob Yacavonis. A graduate of The
Cambridge School of Culinary Arts with over 20 years experience, Chef Bob has honed his
skills at some of Boston's best-known restaurants.
Chef Bob has always had a passion for food and cooking. Inspired by both of his
grandmothersone of Italian descent and the other Lithuanianhe carries on their
legacy of putting smiles on people's faces through cooking and hospitality.
Chef Bob's first experience as a professional cook came at the age of 16 when he became
a breakfast cook for a small neighborhood bagel shop in New York. Later, he spent four
years cooking for a Colorado restaurant group that included an Italian trattoria and one
of this country's first microbrew pubs, now known as the Rock Bottom Brewery. His
Colorado experience culminated at the four-star Boulder restaurant The Flagstaff House,
where he was assistant to the pastry chef.
In 1991 Chef Bob assumed the head chef position at Ristorante Marino in Cambridge. Under
the tutelage of Louisa Marino, he learned the cuisine of Abbruzzo, Italy, with its
emphasis on open fire cookery, fresh rolled pastas, and dry-cured meats. It was also
at Marino's that he honed his management skills, running a team of 30 kitchen personnel.
During the 1990s Chef Bob worked with such notable chefs as Todd English (Olives, Figs)
and Stan Frankenthaler (Salamander) and at restaurants such as Papa Razzi and Rebecca's.
Chef Bob formalized his training at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, receiving the
highest accolades as the recipient of their 1996 Julia Child Award.
